February 2014. 9 Barricas of Rioja Vega has received a Gold Medal at the Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards. The awards ceremony will take place during the Foodex 2014 food and drinks fair in Tokyo next month.

Women’s opinion in the purchasing decision of wine has grown ever more important. This certainty has lead The Institute of Wine & Spiritis Cultural Association to launch the Sakura Challenge for the first time this year. This is a competition aimed at women judging the wines that they believe would appeal to women.

Nine barrels and 23 months were enough to mature this cuvée of Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano. The result were 2,500 bottles of a very personal and exceptional wine.

Despite its short life, 9 Barricas has already received numerous awards, such as a Silver Medal from the demanding International Wine & Spirit Competition, which furthermore classified it as Outstanding.

Rioja Vega wines are accustomed to competing with the best wines from the world at several competitions. They have collected gold and silver medals in consecutive editions of, for  example, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Decanter Wold Wine Awards, the Shanghai  International Wine Challenge or the Japan International Wine Challenge. The Rioja Vega Reserva 2008 received 91 Parker Points only recently.

All these awards recognize Rioja Vega’s relentless effort to interpret the traditions of the  privileged Rioja region in order to achieve the highest quality standards possible and develop a unique Rioja Vega style.
