March 2019. Rioja Vega Edición Limitada Crianza begins yet another year of success.

If the 2015 vintage of Rioja Vega’s limited-edition Crianza was stellar, the new vintage promises to harvest the same or even greater achievements: Rioja Vega Edición Limitada has started off the year with a GOLD MEDAL from the Mundus Vini wine contest, first award of many more which will without doubt soon arrive.

Its success lies in the absolute respect with which the Rioja Vega team treats the two vineyards that make this wine. “The salinity of the soils in Imaz limits the production which favours the varietal expression of the Tempranillo from this vineyard; also, the limestone component of the soils adds in elegance. The soil of the Graciano from Legarda favours fine wines with a good structure. As a whole, the poor composition of the soils on these two vineyards palliated the effects of a weather that caused high yields on other vineyards in the area. Therefore, terroir marks the character of the 2016 vintage of the Rioja Vega Edición Limitada, a balanced, fruity wine with a fantastic ageing potential“, explains the winemaker Esperanza Elías.

With every vintage, Rioja Vega Edición Limitada has accumulated significant awards from critics, international competitions and the specialized press. To name but a few of the most recent examples, the Berliner Wein Trophy and Mundus Vini competitions both granted this wine GOLD MEDALS last year. Mundus Vini further elected it BEST RIOJA CRIANZA. British magazine Decanter, renowned for the quality and character of the wines it evaluates, gave Rioja Vega Edición Limitada 2015 95 POINTS and a GOLD MEDAL. And the influential international critic Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate) awarded it 90 points.

This evolution indicates that the Mundus Vini Gold Medal will be the first of many more achievements of the 2016 vintage.
