Rioja Vega Gran Reserva 2011 Rioja Vega Viejas Añadas Gran Reserva 2008 92 POINTS International Wine Challenge

May 2018. Two Rioja Vega Gran Reserva wines receive 92 POINTS from the International Wine Challenge.

RIOJA VEGA GRAN RESERVA 2011 and RIOJA VEGA VIEJAS AÑADAS GRAN RESERVA 2008, which celebrates a particular vintage on Rioja Vega’s vineyards, have been awarded with 92 POINTS by one of the world’s most demanding wine challenges.

They have been made with the best Tempranillo grapes from the estate and thus mirror the great potential of this noble variety when grown at Rioja Vega.

In the Viejas Añadas Gran Reserva 2008 case, it is the combination of grape variety, terroir, and a particular vintage that appeared so extraordinary on Rioja Vega’s vineyards, that the winemaking team decided to prolong the ageing of a few small lot. After a few years resting in barrels and in the bottle, Rioja Vega’s Tempranillo 2008 proved them right.

However, to make the Viejas Añadas Gran Reserva 2008, the team counted on some previous experience: Rioja Vega Gran Reserva Añadas Míticas 2005, chosen Best Rioja Gran Reserva by Decanter magazine in an exhaustive tasting of hundreds of Gran Reservas from the region. It also got 92 points from the internationally-acclaimed The Wine Advocate-Robert Parker, to name but a few accolades. Rioja Vega Gran Reserva Viejas Añadas 2008 has also received Gold Medals from Challenge International du Vin and Mundus Vini wine contests as well as 95 points from the CIVAS Sommeliers of Spain challenge. Rioja Vega Gran Reserva 2011 has also been granted 91 points from American Wine Spectator magazine.
