The ‘Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection (SWfCP)’ defines the criteria that a sustainable winery must meet based on environmental, social, economic and governance sustainability standards. All of them verified by an independent external entity.

Bodegas Rioja Vega achieves the ‘Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection (SWfCP)’ certificate and thus reaffirms its commitment to environmental sustainability. This certification adds to the long list of sustainable vineyard improvement projects that Bodegas Rioja Vega has been developing for more than 20 years.

The ‘Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection (SWfCP)’ certificate is the first and only specific certification for wineries in terms of environmental sustainability and was created by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from Spain. Since 2023, the seal includes, in addition to the environmental pillar, social, economic and governance sustainability criteria, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Obtaining this certificate underlines Bodegas Rioja Vega’s commitment to sustainable business practices and contributes to the global effort to address climate change. This certificate involves the implementation of specific practices and measures to reduce the carbon footprint, optimize the use of natural resources and promote responsible environmental management in all aspects of wine production.

Bodegas Rioja Vega thus reaffirms its daily commitment to sustainability materialized in other types of actions aimed at rationalizing water and energy consumption (solar panels, drip irrigation, efficient facilities and machinery), reduction of phytosanitary products (sexual confusion, fertilizers organic origin), waste management (water purification) or biodiversity and landscape management (commitment to local varieties, precision viticulture).
